The Stirling Technologies team recently had the opportunity to volunteer at Woburn’s Council of Social Concern, an organization that provides services for Woburn and Winchester residents including affordable childcare, food-assistance, and parenting education courses. During our time there, we painted and completed other projects in the facility to help give the space an updated look.
We initially became involved with the Council of Social Concern when designing collateral for their 50th Anniversary Good Neighbors Campaign. In addition, our founder, Thomas Stirling, serves on the council’s board of directors.
The space that we painted during our time is an important area because it’s the place where food is stored for the food pantry. It’s where staff and volunteers spend lots of time sorting and organizing donations, and the walls were in need of some updating. We were excited to give the room a fresh coat of paint and to brighten up the space that staff and volunteers spend so many hours.
While we were there we also had the opportunity to tour the food pantry and learn more about the services that it offers from the pantry’s Program Director, Debbi Pisari. The food pantry provides food and personal care items to those living in Woburn and Winchester who do not have the financial resources to meet their needs. Client’s can shop at the pantry once a month and typically leave with about five bags of groceries. Each year, the council serves about 2,200 individuals and relies on donations and volunteers to help accomplish this.
Hearing about these services and spending time there was overall a rewarding experience. We gained a lot of insight into all of the good that this organization is doing for our immediate community, something we typically don’t get to see every day during work. It was also a great feeling to see the staff’s enthusiasm over the freshly painted walls.
We look forward to working more with the Council of Social Concern in the future and helping out in any way that we can. If you’re looking for ways to help, the council is always looking for food donations to meet their clients’ needs year round.
